Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
Often after drastic weight loss or after a pregnancy the abdomen is slack. This often results in hanging skin layers due to limp tissue. The Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) is a good way to optimize the unpleasant appearance of the abdominal region. The Abdominoplasty includes the removal of larger fat deposits and slack tissue from the frontal abdominal region. The procedure may also include tightening of the abdominal muscles. Diet and exercise may not be enough if the slack skin tissue needs to be removed. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia. The incision is located at the pubic hairline. It is marked before the procedure and is placed in such a way as to be fully concealed by underwear or a bathing suit. The operation requires a hospital stay of a few days.
The ideal age: There is no age limit.
Postoperative care: Immediately following the procedure the previously measured compression bandage or compression pants are applied and worm for approximately one month. You should try to rest as much as possible in the first few weeks following the operation in order to minimize swelling. You should not sleep on your stomach for two weeks.Possible swelling and temporary numbness of the skin subside completely a few months after the operation.
Risks: If the abdominoplasty is performed by an experienced plastic surgeon, complications are rare and usually do not interfere with a good outcome. As with all operations, hematomas and swelling can appear after an abdominoplasty; these usually heal on their own. A delayed healing can occur in patients with blood clotting disorders.
Note: Exposing the scar to the sun in the first few months should be avoided.
