Dance Therapy
The word "dance" comes from an ancient Sanskrit root, whose original meaning is tension: tension of muscles, of vertebral column, of breath and, at the same time, of man between earth and sky as well as of the soul towards its God. Dance is vital and creative energy, is complete expression of the human being, is conversant with body awareness and, as such, it can turn into a process of healing, a life rule and an access to a dimension of absolute.
The idea of the therapeutic worthiness of dance was born from the meeting between the gradual conquests of the western dance and the eastern meditation, whose goal is the attainment of the inner harmony.
Dance therapy is therefore an art, which suggests to people how to be creative through the movement. All this allows opening the doors on the wellness world. Our idea is that between art and health exists a strong relationship because the possibility to express own creativity through the artistic route can be considered an indication of wellness for every human being. In fact the re-integration of artistic process in the society encourages the development of healthy people in a more balanced context.
Dance therapy can be seen as a pedagogical and therapeutic nonverbal discipline, which, through guidelines, gives to people the possibility to express their creativity, often latent, in the form of body movement.
Through dance therapy is possible to refine the psychomotor functions. In fact, the performance of a rhythmic and coordinated movement develops muscular groups and optimizes the functionality of the articulates. Moreover it improves many other faculties, as the quickness of movements, the coordination, the precision and the interlock of actions.
At the base of this discipline there is the idea that body and mind represents an inseparable unity. That's why dance therapy is a holistic approach to face many emotional, cognitive, behavioural and physical diseases.
It's possible to identify five operating levels:
- Functional pleasure
- Refining of psychomotor functions
- Psycho-corporal unity
- Symbolism at corporal level
- Corporal image and self-esteem
The methodology proposed provides that everybody "brings into play" and doesn't limit itself to learn techniques or exercises, but agrees to do a unique experience, which can make deeply to evolve social relationships.
Thanks to dance therapy is possible to regain own psychophysical balance and to improve inner harmony as well as the relationships with the others and the society.
