Liposuction

Persistent fat deposits occur in many, even very thin, women. They can sit anywhere on the body, especially directly under the skin over the hip and thigh area. The operation to remove stubborn, excessive fat deposits with the aspiration lipectomy (suction of subdermal fat deposits) is called lipsuction. The surgeon introduces thin needles in order to suction off fat deposits under the skin. Usually several incisions in the most unnoticeable areas are necessary.

Depending on the diagnosis, liposuctions are performed either as inpatient or outpatient procedures. The duration of the operation depends on the number of fat deposits that need to be removed. In local anesthesia, a maximum of one and a half liters of fat can be removed. If higher amounts are to be removed by liposuction, experts recommend general anesthesia.

The ideal age: Only after the age of 18. Procedures performed over the age of 50 are not recommended, because the skin has lost its elasticity and liposuction may worsen the physical appearance.

Postoperative care: For one month after the procedure a bandage is worn as tightly as possible. Swelling in the wound area and the fine scars disappear after approximately 20 days.

Risks: Hematomas may result if the needle is inserted too deeply in the tissue. During the suction of large fat deposits there is a risk of hemorrhaging shock.

Note: In general liposuction operations are especially low risk. The desired result can usually be reached without complications when a good surgeon is chosen and postoperative instructions are followed. Continue with "Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)"
